How To Create Content On Wiki Web Site
The Wiki websites became a mainstay of the interactive web. Sites like Wikipedia allowed users to create and interact with content like never before. The power of the Wiki website is the harnessing of the site community’s collective knowledge. The community can quickly and effortlessly create informative and authoritative content that drives more traffic to the site. Creating a Wiki website is relatively easy.
Many people are familiar with Wikipedia, the huge online encyclopedia, which is created collaboratively by thousands of people working on public web pages to create content. Then Wikipedia is not the only application of wiki software. It can be used in private businesses by running a type of integrated software like Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 on an application server like Microsoft’s SharePoint Server. Using these tools, your business can create wiki pages for sharing knowledge within a team, creating events or project plans or making your own business-based encyclopedia.
Guidelines:
1. Open SharePoint, and click on the “Site Actions” drop-down menu on the right side of your screen.
2. Click on “Create.”
3. Click on “Sites and Workspaces” located toward the bottom of the page under Web Pages. This brings up a new SharePoint site page.
4. Type a title for your wiki site in the Title and Description section. You have to type a title, or no one will be able to find your site. Under the title, you can also add an optional purpose description of your wiki in the Description box. This helps your fellow teammates know why you created the site.
5. Type a “URL” for your wiki site in the Web Site Address section. The first part of the address is provided for you by the server and appears in the gray area before your address box. Don’t use special characters like / or {, ?, *, @ as these would make modifying your site difficult.
6. Click the “Wiki Site” in the next section under the Collaboration tab.
7. Select your permissions in the Permissions section. You can decide if you want to provide access to the same users who have access to the parent site or to a unique set of users. You can go back and change this later if you need to.
8. Click “Create,” and after a second or two, your new web site should be ready for you and your team to work on.

How to Disable Browser Plugins, Extensions and Add-Ons
We always want to get as much information and entertainment out of our browsers as possible. The three major browsers: Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome extend the abilities of your browser by means of third party-files called add-ons or extensions. These files enable enhanced browsing, add some functionality to Facebook or Twitter, or even add games to your browser. Moreover, utilities such as Adobe Flash offer a second category of third party files known as plugins. These files work in the background and usually connect with external software, allowing your browser to use Web applications, download files and more.
While add-ons, extensions and plugins are purposely created to help you in surfing the Web, having too many of these third-party files can slow down your browser and even create conflicts within it. Whenever you encounter problems regarding extensions and plugins, you can disable them at any time. You just need the knowledge for you to be able to do this. Here’s a short guide on how to disable browser plugins, extensions and add-ons.
Instructions
Internet Explorer
1 Locate the “New Tab” button near the top of the browser window to the right of the address field and any other open tabs. Right click the empty space which is between the New Tab button and the house-shaped Home icon. Select “Command Bar” from the context menu that appears. Choose “Manage Add-ons” from the Tools drop-down menu to open the Manage Add-on dialog box. Some versions of Internet Explorer like the IE9 hides the Command Bar by default, while IE8 doen’t as in this version, the Tools menu is already visible.
2 Choose the add-on type you want to disable. By default, the Manage Add-ons window lists the currently loaded add-ons.
3 Choose the add-on you want to disable and click “Disable”. IE will also disable any add-on dependent on the add-on you’re disabling. If other related add-ons are installed, IE will display them and allow you to disable them as well.
Mozilla Firefox
4 Click the orange “Firefox” button in the top left-hand corner of the browser window and choose “Add-ons” from the right column of the menu to open an Add-ons Manager tab in the active browser window. If you are using Windows XP, click on “Tools” from the menu bar near the top of the browser window and choose “Add-ons.”
5 Click “Extensions” to view the installed extensions that add features to Firefox, or click “Plugins” to view plugins that add compatibility and functionality such as Apple QuickTime or Adobe Acrobat.
6 Find the add-on you want to disable and click its “Disable” button. If you want to delete an extension entirely, click “Remove.” Restart Firefox to complete the process.
Google Chrome
7 Click the wrench icon at the top right of the browser window, choose “Tools” and choose “Extensions” to open a new “Options” tab.
8 Uncheck “Enabled” to disable an extension, or click “Remove” to delete it completely.
9 Enter “chrome://plugins/” in Chrome’s address bar to view plugins that add compatibility and functionality, such as Apple QuickTime or Adobe Flash, and click the “Disable” link under the plugin you want to disable.
How to buy an expired domain name
Buying an expiring domain name can be a good strategy to earn money online. There are many reasons why you would want to buy an expired domain name. You might need it for your own business, or you might even want to buy it and put it up for sale.
Here’s how you go about buying an expiring domain name:
One thing to keep in mind is that domain names do not expire on the expiry date itself. There is a 40 day grace period where the domain can be re-registered by the previous owner. During this time, all services are usually shut off. Domain names in this grace period are a sign that the previous owner may not be too keen on renewing his or her ownership.
Once these 40 days are over, the domain name goes into a redemption period. During this, all internet registration data –such as Whois information – will be removed. The owner can still pay an additional fee to reactivate the domain.
Finally, once this phase is over and the domain owner decides not to renew the domain, it goes into the deletion period. At the end of this period, the domain is released into the open market for purchase. This entire process lasts for 75 days after the initial expiration date.
You can then use services such as SnapNames, Enom and Pool.com to buy your domain.
These services will, for a fee, keep your chosen name on a watch list, and attempt to buy it once it’s released onto the open market by the domain registrar. Keep in mind that if other people also attempt to buy the same domain as you, the domain will go up for auction, and the highest bidder will win the bidding game.
Let’s now look at what these services offer:
- SnapNames
Snapnames will charge you USD 60 for each domain name you wish to buy. However, you do not have to pay if you cannot get the domain. Also, if there are other interested buyers, the domain will be put up for auction.
- Pool.com
You can pay USD 60 for the domain you want and if successful, Pool.com will ask you to place a fresh bid for the domain. If yours is one of the two highest bids, you will be then asked to bid against the other high bidder.
- Enom
Enom charged you USD 30 to become a preferred bidder and the higher you pay, the better your chances are of buying the domain of your choice. Emom will also ask you for a confirmation fax stating that you wish to bid on a domain.
Of course, if you don’t wish to pay for these services, you can just go to a domain registrar such as GoDaddy and try to buy the domain before someone else snaps it up! However, with the proliferation of automated and specialised services such as Pool and Emom, it might be very difficult to succeed in this.

How google tools have saved the business world
Whatever business you’re running, your IT solutions are likely to be crucial to your success. IT has transformed the way we work beyond all recognition in the last twenty years and, for anybody who can remember those dark days prior to the internet; the changes are nothing less than miraculous. The last few years have seen many more advances in technology that have made running a business easier and more accessible than at any time in the past. Cloud computing solutions, in particular, have created access to simple solutions for businesses and it’s no surprise that Google is at the forefront of supplying simple, often free, cloud solutions that make running a business child’s play.
Fax of Life
Online email solutions have been with us for a long time, and they are a more familiar aspect of cloud computing which most people will be familiar with. Hotmail and Gmail (the latter from Google) are the best known versions. Back in the dark ages, we had to manage with (at best) a grumpy fax machine or (at worst) an actual letter. There was no telling if either form of pre-historic communication tool had actually got where it was supposed to and for those doing international business it could take weeks to find out. Gmail offers the advantages of a professional email address, with online storage and an offline functionality to allow you to continue working wherever you are. You can communicate across the globe with Gmail within an instant and know immediately that your email has got to the recipient within seconds.
The PA’s Demise
In those positively archaic days, pre-internet managing your company diary needed at least a PA and often an admin assistant as well. That was just to manage one calendar and finding out who was where and when or what they were up to could take a sizable portion out of your day. With Google’s calendar function you can manage your own diary online, and different employees’ calendars can be shared to allow easy meeting set ups and check who is where, at any time. Easy to sync across all of your devices the days of the PA are definitely numbered. You can also share a version on the web to allow for clients and colleagues to make appointments when you’re actually available. All of this is barely a click away with Google’s calendar service and for the small business it makes time management a possibility and not an un-ending nightmare.
Romantic Times (Not)
I trained to type in the dying era of the carbon copy. All I can say is “ugh”. If you’re lucky enough (and young enough) to have no idea what I’m talking about then this should give you a sleepless night. In those days, if you wanted more than one copy of a document you inserted sheets of carbon between each page and typed on to the top copy. Everything was duplicated, including all of your typos and errors. These inevitable mistakes meant removing each sheet, and the errors had to be erased by hand. That, however, was the easy bit; replacing each sheet, properly aligned, is why secretaries relied on Tipex, Valium and never actually had time for affairs with the boss. They were evil times, in which collaborative working meant having people standing around you and telling you what to type. If they changed their minds half way through, you could use this fact in defense at the murder trial. Google Docs is like a gift from the gods; you can work with any number of people on a document at any time and from multiple locations. The documents are backed up and stored safely online and any authorized user can add, change or amend the document at will, while changes are tracked for all to see.
Running a business used to be a risky affair that required a cast of thousands; today, thanks to Google tools for business it’s possible to manage a firm truly single-handedly.
How to speed up your internet connection
These days, with broadband Internet becoming as common as snow, most of us find ourselves blessed with blissful, high speed connections to the online realms. All seems to be going just great; the downloads are fast, browsing is so fast that there is virtually no stoppages, and the online games are completely lag-free. However, things tend to go wrong sometimes. We find our net speeds slower than a sloth. Gaming seems impossible online, downloads seem to take forever to complete, and the general broadband experience leaves a bad taste in the mouth.
Why is my Internet so slow?
There are several factors that can affect your Internet connection negatively. The most common problems include:
Bad Service from Provider: Believe it or not, Internet speeds tend to vary based on geographic locations. So someone in say, Bristol, may enjoy great speeds from one service provider, while another person using services from the same provider in Manchester, may have a disappointing experience.
Old Operating System and Software: Newer software bring with them updates, enhancements and new features that can drastically improve browsing experience.
Computer Infections: Viruses, malware, and undesirable applications can infect the computer, and slow it down over time.
Old Hardware: Using outdated hardware such as old network peripherals, older cabling, etc. can also reduce speeds considerably.
Security Leaks: This pertains to Wi-Fi (Wireless) users. Your Wi-Fi network, if left unsecured, may easily be hacked into. People close-by, neighbours, etc. could piggyback on your Internet connection, reducing your own speeds.
How do I get my net speeds back to normal?
There are some really simple steps that you could take to find the reason for your slow network speeds, solve the issues, and stop them from reoccurring:
- Do a Speed Test
: Determine what speeds you are currently getting, by running a simple online speed test.Run the speed test from different machines that have been tested to be clean and infection-free, if possible. If you get low speeds no matter which system you use, the problem may lie with your Internet provider.
- Check whether your Wi-Fi Network is secure: Wireless connections are pretty open to risks. If you use a wireless router, you can go to the router’s admin page where you can find a list of the systems connected to your network. You can also set up encryption and a password that prevents unauthorised access to your network. The admin page can be accessed by opening a Web browser and typing the IP address of the router into the address bar. By default, the IP address of modems, routers and the like, tend to be “192.168.1.1″, or “192.168.2.1″. Refer to the router/ modem manual booklets for more details.
- Check for Improper positioning in case of Wireless Connections: While Wi-Fi is a good choice as its a cable free connection, it can be bogged down by interference from other wireless devices in the area, or by walls and other heave objects coming in the way. Position the computer as close to the router as possible, to ensure maximum bandwidth. If there is a lot of distance between the router and the systems, investing in a parabolic reflector, or a high-gain antenna for the router can help boost the transmission speeds.
- Check for damaged/ old cables: Damaged cables can cause intermittent connectivity issues, frequent disconnections and several other undesirable effects. Check the network cabling behind your computer for signs of wear and tear. Replace the cables if found to be frayed, torn or damaged in some other way.
- Update your Operating System & Software: Using an old operating system can increase chances of infection, and not updating regularly used software can open the system to vulnerabilities. Both of these issues can slow down the network speeds drastically. Updating them will help you stay secure online.
- Install and regularly maintain an Antivirus Solution: Keeping antivirus software installed and frequently updated can go a long way in improving the health of the system, and can also help keep your network safe by using a firewall. A safe and secure network often tends to be less effected by worms, Trojans, etc. This can in turn keep the net speeds healthy.
- Run Diagnostic Tools: If the net speeds are quite low and the hardware isn’t at fault, then running diagnostic software tools can help determine the problem. Tools such as malware scanners, junk file removers, registry cleaners and so on, can help clean the system and thereby improve the net speeds.
Just taking some simple steps and preventive measures can go a long way in reducing speed bumps on your broadband superhighway.
