The scourge of piracy has attained epic proportions. It needs nothing less than a big ticket Memorandum of Understanding with the world’s most advanced film industry to be reined in. The Telugu film industry did just that on March 23. It inked a deal with the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) to intensify the anti-video piracy operations that are currently on, thanks to the efforts of Andhra Pradesh Film Chamber of Commerce (APFCC).
Speaking on the eve, Robinson, an MPAA representative, said that the AP government should stringently against the pirates and that it should act like the governments of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. He said that it was not impossible to curb piracy. Thankfully, the AP government is encouraging the anti-piracy moves and many feel that it is responsive to the woes of the film industry.
The signing of the deal was made in the presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister, Kiran Kumar Reddy. The industry was represented by D Suresh Babu, Allu Aravind, Shyamprasad Reddy, C Kalyan and others.Tollywood registered a total loss of Rs. 338 cr due to internet piracy alone, the speakers noted. The collaboration, it is hoped, will go a long way in bringing down the incidence of internet piracy in our State.
